Short bioSophie was one of Wojciech George Lasica‘s four sisters and two brothers. She and her husband lived at 40 (or 39) Fourth St. in Passaic, NJ, in the 1910s and 1920s. George Lasica moved in with them upon his arrival from Poland in 1912, and his bride Katarzyna joined them after she married George in 1913. Sophie’s husband died in a fire in 1923 when she was 39. Their children Americanized their last name to Jadenski.
According to niece Patricia Madansky Kilinski, Sophie couldn’t read or write well, apparently never became a naturalized citizen and never spoke about the old country or her relatives in Europe. She and her sister Anna worked for a time at a wool-spinning factory on Passaic Street in Garfield, NJ. Sophie was Joseph Lasica‘s great aunt, though he never met her.
